Research

I am interested in the physics and chemistry of magmatic processes through a combination of theory and field work. Most of my theoretical work is focused on numerical modeling of magmatic processes at the length scale of crystals in partially molten magma. The value of considering magmatic processes at the grain-scale is that unanticipated phenomenon can arise that perhaps changes our perception of these same processes at the larger field-scale. Furthermore, the output of these grain-scale models can be used to provide constituitive relations to close continuum-scale models and for interpreting both geochemical and geophysical data.
